Workouts

For everybody who asked for descriptions of the exercises in Craig Ballantyne's 7-Minute Weight Loss Circuit , I looked up some links and video clips for you. Some of the demos show weights, but these would all be done without weight for the body weight circuit.

Squat

Reverse Lunge

Push-Up

Plank

Close-grip Push-up - that's the hand position, but obviously you would do these on the floor unless you're a weakling with Barbie arms. ;-)

Side Plank

Mountain Climber

Speaking of workouts. I lost my mind this morning and signed up for WorkoutPass.com. I wasn't going to because it's $99 and I really ought to quit spending money like a drunk sailor, but everybody's been talking about it and I can't stand the thought that I'm missing something. Since I'm working out at home now, I could use some new ideas to keep it fresh.

WorkoutPass.com gives you access to a collection of websites with thousands of workouts for every goal imaginable, and not like lame generic workouts, but proven routines from top trainers like Alwyn Cosgrove, Craig Ballantyne and Eric Cressey. There are MMA workouts, kettlebell workouts, body weight workouts, ab workouts, agility workouts, fat loss workouts. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, ... sorry, lapsed into a Forest Gump moment. Anyway, it's a TRUCKLOAD of workouts and a pretty impressive array of free goodies. I was looking through all the bonus e-books you get for joining. In addition to material from Gourmet Nutrition and Turbulence Training, there are like 27 more e-books that I don't own and don't have any idea what they are. I can't wait to download them all onto The Precious. :-)

All of the workouts include an animated demonstration of each exercise, which is nice because sometimes you just can't figure out what the hell people are talking about from a photo and a vague description. The animations make it really clear. What's hilarious though, is when you pull up the workout page, all of the little characters start going through their exercises at once. I nearly spit Diet Pepsi all over my keyboard because it reminds me of the hamster dance, dee dee dee da dee dee do do...

Uh oh... it's so dangerous for me to read your blog.. I nearly always have to run off and buy something or join something like that workoutpass thing..

The hamster song is cute but I'm sure that nothing will ever do it for me quite like the Llama song.  I can still hear it in my brain when I have a quiet moment!  What have you done to me?

Good luck for your surgery Renee!  Did you decide for sure on the hamstring graft?  I was in hospital for 7 days once and I was sharing a room with the knee surgery patients.  In and out.  One girl got up and walked around half the night after her surgery (she was a smoker and was desperately searching for a place to have a sneaky ciggie without setting off the smoke alarms).  They must have done 20 knees or more in the week I was there. I'm sure you'll feel much better when the 'mechanical fixing' is done and you can get on with your real recovery.   Oh HEY, where do we send flowers and chocolates then?

That video doesn't include the planks but it has great twists on the push-ups and mountain climbers. His workouts are so straight-forward and painful. I love them!

I searched and found the push-up variations video again.

The one where he has one foot elevated on the other foot is how I've been doing my push-ups in the leg brace.

For anyone who missed the llama song the first time:

I was once a treehouse, I lived in a cake... sing it, everybody!

Yes, on the hamstring graft. And I won't be in the hospital more than a few hours, so I don't know how to rake in the flowers and chocolates without giving all of you internet weirdoes my address. Perhaps you could send me some nice e-cards. :-)

Is there such a thing as an online gift certificate for Cadbury? That would be sweeeet! LOL I'm so glad all of that gooey Valentine's stuff is finally out of the stores and the bunnies and eggs are coming! I swoon at the thought of the first Cadbury Creme Egg of the season.

An aside on the Cadbury, have you seen KinderEggs from Canada?  They are ultra fun little eggs made of very creamy milk Chocolate, but instead of gooey creme inside there is a toy that you get to build.  Lots of people collect every toy!

I know, you love that goeey creme, but if you ever get a chance to get a KinderEgg the chocolate is great.  We can't have them in the US because the food laws prohibit putting choking hazards in things that people eat.  Apparently we aren't smart enough to take the toy out before giving them to two year olds. LOL

I did this three times through and can't wait to do it again with some pushup and plank variations.  I think I may substitutue burpees for the mountain climbers, or maybe do the "terminator" combination of both.  It's a very fun workout that goes quickly and gets you sweating.  I'm working up to doing this with a weighted vest on, just to add to the torture. ;-)

Nah - Creme Eggs win hands-down over Kinder Eggs. Who needs a fiddly little toy? Give me the GOO! LOL

Good luck for your surgery and subsequent STD

Ha ha!  I actually hate Cadbury (blaspheme!).  The goo makes my teeth ache.  Kinder Eggs are pure novelty and really creamy chocolate.  The toys are super cool! But I'd trade them all for Choxie Chocolate Peanut Butter candies from Target.  In fact, there is no greater chocolate than Choxie.  Heavenly, all of the varieties.

cool, if you go to YouTube and search for Turbulence Training a BUNCH of stuff comes up.

We did a particularly painful pushup variation in TKD class: put your hands at waist level instead of shoulder level

Skigg,

I hope your surgery goes well tomorrow. I can't wait to hear about the hilarity that will no doubt go on during your anesthesia.
